We will slowly be rolling out videos about once a month further explaining general concepts related to audio & video. Feel free to follow along on our Youtube channel. As we create videos we will hyperlink them to the descriptions below.
No, and you’d be surprised what you can immediately hear each stage up the ladder of gear you try out. That’s why our store exists in the physical world. You can see, hear, and touch every piece of gear in our showroom and see for yourself.
No system is one size fit's all. It all depends on your room size; what do you have now; do you like to stream music, or want to play vinyl, CD’s and or Tape?; Are you wanting to integrate your audio with a TV? How often do you watch shows and movies versus listen to music? What kind of music genre do you like to listen to? Do you use music to entertain or more for personal use? If you have an idea of how to answer the above, we'll help custom curate a system that works for you that you’ll enjoy for many years to come. We can make it as simple or elaborate as you’d like.
Lot's of things including a plethora of wireless control options and improvements in overall sound quality. Older units can't be integrated with a TV, often generate a lot of heat and less power to your speakers than we can now. We can simply create better sound with more efficiency than we could before. It's similar to Classic cars versus modern ones. Classics are fun but you don’t see them on the road day to day all too often for a reason. New things like what we sell come with a warranty, are factory fresh with the latest technological advancements not just conceptually but the very materials they’re made with may or may not have existed when your parent’s turntable was made. The performance you get from present day gear will almost always outperform what they made 20+ years ago. Don’t believe us? Hear it for yourself and you be the judge.
No…turntables require a phono pre-amp & speakers require amplification. In order to hear your vinyl you’ll need a combo of both.
A solid flat surface away from direct sunlight to put your turntable on and a way of amplifying that signal. You can go with either a powered or passive stereo system as long as there is a phono stage somewhere in your system.
Powered speakers have a built in amplifier so you plug those kind of speakers directly into an outlet, passive speakers need power from an amplifier via speaker wire. Both can work and sound great. There's pro's and con's to both styles but it boils down to what will work best with you in your home. We have plenty of options for both that we'd love to let you listen to.
There’s a lot of different ways. If you’re starting from scratch or looking to update an existing space in your home we can assist you with some various options. Typically we suggest pairing a TV with a sound bar or receiver that has either ‘HDMI Arc’ or ‘HDMI E-Arc’ so you can control the volume with ease.
Many higher end headphones require a separate unit for it to sound right but most every headphone benefits from one even if it doesn’t necessarily need it. We don’t recommend them for everyone but they’re a nice add on if you want to get the most out of your headphone.
Streaming sounds better and gives you more control and flexibility of where your music can be played. It uses your home’s wifi to receive it’s audio information rather than a short wave connection from your phone or laptop. Bluetooth is limited to a very short distance between devices so you can’t move very far away from certain devices without the connection being severed. Bluetooth is in almost every way an outdated and sub par connection for transmitting audio. We firmly believe it’s the worst way to listen to music as you lose almost 50% of the music through Bluetooth. The larger bandwidth of streaming allows for much higher sound quality which is why we only sell streamers and not purely bluetooth devices.
Yes, We have plenty of people who are more than happy with what we sold them but wanting to reach into the next level of audio or video quality. If you’re looking for that upgrade we will certainly do what we can to help you get there. If your an existing customer with gear you’ve previously purchased from us, we will do our best to accommodate your existing gear into some form of trade in.
In the early 1900's, recordings were made on Shellac which is a hard but brittle compound and the discs and players were pretty crude, often used mechanical mechanisms for the motor and a very crude needle with a lot of weight behind it. Modern turntables track recordings of your Vinyl with 1-2grams of pressure and if everything is properly aligned won't damage your recordings each play. Old Gramaphones use a crude needle with a pressure force of 20grams or more which rips up the grooves each play. The music industry switched over to Vinyl records around 1945 which was a major improvement and the standard for analog music today. When playing old 78 RPM Sheliac records you'll notice they don't sound as good as they are often pretty crudely recorded and stored improperly without dust protective sleeves. They are all 'Mono' which is overall less realistic sounding than modern 'stereo' recordings. They are fun but not something most people get into and require some modification to allow playback on a modern turntable.
